Michigan mom slain with 6 children had posted chilling claims about husband before tragedy
A Michigan woman and her six children were shot dead by her husband on July 24, 2026. The accused man, Kristopher Karolkiewicz, gunned down his wife, Amanda and their children, ages 5 to 15. The husband then set their house on fire before turning the gun on himself. By the time deputies arrived at the Riverside Trail home in Grand Haven Township, eight of them were already dead.
However, a possible motive may involve allegations of an extramarital affair. More than a year before her death, Amanda had reportedly posted on Reddit about a personal crisis. She alleged that her husband had cheated on her with an intern at his workplace. In follow-up posts, Amanda said she was attempting to reconcile with her husband for the sake of their children.
Victim’s Painful Ordeal Of A Marriage In Crisis
According to archived online posts, Amanda first shared her account in 2024. Using the username “MandyK1179,” she wrote in a forum for couples recovering from infidelity.
Amanda said her husband had an affair with an intern at his workplace. She wrote that the woman was the same age she had been when she first met him. Amanda said she discovered the affair nearly four years earlier and alleged that her husband’s family encouraged him to conceal the relationship. Amanda wrote, “He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again — the same age I was when I was the intern.”
Michigan Woman Tried To Reconcile For Her Children
In additional posts, Amanda said she spent a year struggling after learning of the affair before deciding to take a stand for herself.
However, she said she ultimately chose to remain in the marriage for the sake of their six children. She did not pursue divorce. By mid-2024, Amanda wrote that their relationship had improved, though she acknowledged it remained a challenge to maintain stability.
Amanda wrote, “I kept telling myself, ‘I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now.’ They have no idea — I faked it ’till we made it. We’re in a much better place 4.5 years out, but it’s still a fight to stay in a healthy place.”
Authorities Investigate Tragic End To Family
While Amanda’s past statements provide additional context, authorities have not confirmed a motive for shooting. According to official records, Amanda worked as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional at Peach Plains Elementary School. She also authored a book focused on calming techniques and positive affirmations for children with special needs. Her work was influenced by her experience supporting two adoptive daughters with special needs.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jacob Sparks said investigators have found no prior criminal history involving Kristopher. With limited information available, authorities are working with family members as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sparks said, “This is an unspeakable tragedy; we may never completely understand why it happened. But we will do our best to find the answers and to honor the memory of those victims.”
