😳🙏 “‘I’LL WAKE UP AND REALIZE IT’S THE FINAL DAY’ — ONE COMMENT FROM THE CREATOR OF THE CHOSEN IS HITTING FANS HARD.” After years of record-breaking success, millions of viewers, and a journey that began with a crowdfunded dream, cameras are now rolling on the final season of The Chosen.

Production has officially returned to Utah as filming begins on the seventh and final season of The Chosen, marking the end of one of the most widely watched faith-based dramas in modern television history.

The series, which has now reached more than 300 million viewers worldwide, is shooting in Goshen, Utah, where the cast and crew have reunited to complete the final chapter of the ambitious adaptation of the life of Jesus and his disciples.

For creator and director Dallas Jenkins, the fact that production is now in its last stretch still feels difficult to fully process. Despite years of global success, viral audience growth, and expansion into multiple languages and platforms, he says the day-to-day approach to filmmaking has remained surprisingly grounded.

“I want to make sure that we do right by what God wants, we do right by the story,” Jenkins said. “Every day, that’s what I’m focused on, and then one day, I’ll wake up and go, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s the final day.’”

That sense of gradual realization rather than sudden closure reflects how the entire journey of The Chosen has unfolded. What began as a crowdfunded independent project with no guarantee of success has grown into a global phenomenon translated into dozens of languages and distributed across major platforms.

Jenkins has often reflected on how uncertain those early days were, when the production team had only a fraction of the resources they now manage and no clear indication of how audiences would respond to a multi-season biblical drama told through a deeply human lens.

“We didn’t know how many viewers we were going to have. We didn’t know if the show was going to last. I didn’t even know if I’d finish Season 1,” he admitted. “It was all step by step.”

Now, as the final season takes shape, the scale of what the series has become is difficult to ignore. With international distribution expanding and plans to reach audiences in nearly every region of the world, the show’s reach continues to grow even as its narrative approaches its conclusion.

A major part of that expansion has come through streaming availability, including on Amazon platforms, where previous seasons remain accessible to new audiences discovering the series long after its original release. That ongoing accessibility has helped sustain momentum as the final chapters are filmed.

Despite its growth into a global brand, Jenkins emphasizes that the core mission of the series has remained unchanged since the beginning: portraying Jesus and his followers not as distant historical figures, but as fully realized human beings experiencing emotion, conflict, doubt, and faith.

“It feels like a show about human beings, and I think that’s been the secret sauce,” he said. He added that the legacy he hopes to leave behind is not measured in numbers or streaming statistics, but in personal impact. “Perhaps after seeing the show, they know and love Jesus just a little more, regardless of your background, regardless of your beliefs. What happens after that is not up to me.”

That emotional connection is something fans have consistently echoed since the series began, and it has become especially visible during the filming of the final season, where audience members have been invited to participate as extras in large-scale scenes.

Hundreds of fans have traveled to Goshen, Utah, for the opportunity to step inside the world of The Chosen, with some traveling across the United States just to be part of the production’s final stretch.

One fan, Deb Lazarz, said she made the trip from Boston for her first experience on set, describing the overwhelming demand to participate.

“They have been saying 60,000 people tried to get on,” Lazarz said. “So we’re feeling super blessed.”

Her sister-in-law, Mary Plumb, also joined the production for the first time and described the experience as emotionally transformative. Seeing the recreated world of the series up close changed how she related to the stories she had heard for years.

“It makes it so much more real and relatable,” she said. “That’s my favorite part… just being a part of the story. Whether I show up on camera or not doesn’t really matter. I’ve just got the chance to be a part of something really special.”

The production’s decision to continue filming in Utah has also been significant for the local industry, with Goshen serving as a central filming location for large-scale biblical sets and desert landscapes that mirror the historical setting of the story.

Crew members have described the final season production schedule as both intense and emotional, as many of them have worked on the show for years and are now preparing to close a long-running creative chapter.

For Jenkins, however, the focus remains firmly on the work itself rather than the ending. He has repeatedly emphasized that even though the series is nearing its conclusion, the process of filming remains the same as it was in the beginning: careful, deliberate, and centered on storytelling rather than spectacle.

That consistency has been a defining feature of the series’ production identity, even as its audience has grown exponentially and its cultural footprint has expanded far beyond its original expectations.

As Season 7 continues filming in Utah, anticipation is also building for the next installment already in the pipeline. Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 15, continuing the story leading into the final arc. Earlier seasons remain available for streaming through Amazon as well as through the show’s official distribution platforms.

The upcoming final season is expected to bring together years of narrative development, character arcs, and historical storytelling that have defined the series since its inception. While details remain closely guarded, the production has confirmed that filming will continue over the coming months in multiple Utah locations.

For fans who have followed the series from its crowdfunded beginnings to its current global reach, the final season represents both an ending and a culmination of a long shared journey.

And for Jenkins, even as that ending approaches, the focus remains on the present moment—on set, in Goshen, with the cast, crew, and community who have helped shape The Chosen into a worldwide phenomenon.

“I’ll wake up and go, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s the final day,’” he said. But for now, it’s still just another day of filming a story that, for millions of viewers, continues to feel very much alive.
