😂 While his teammates were busy answering questions under pressure, cameras repeatedly cut to one contestant sitting with his head bowed and eyes closed, leaving viewers convinced he had actually dozed off during the show.

THE Chase viewers were left open-mouthed after a contestant appeared to fall ASLEEP during filming in a show first.

Thursday’s episode of the ITV quiz show saw four new players join forces to try and beat Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty.

One of these was engineer Victor, but as he waited his turn to answer questions, he appeared to doze off.

As Bradley Walsh asked the other contestants their quick fire round questions, Victor could be seen behind them with his head bowed and eyes shut.

Taking to Twitter one fan of The Chase wrote: “Is Victor asleep?”

Another added: “Victor having his afternoon nap.”

A third tweeted: “Poor old #Victor nodded off during #Chentelle’s questions.”

Meanwhile a fellow viewer posted: “Victor looks like he’s dropped off.”

Thankfully Victor perked himself up for his round of questions and managed to take £3,000 to the table to play against Anne.

And despite his snoozing appearance earlier, Victor decided to go big and accept the higher offer of £47,000.

While viewers praised his confidence, it turned out to be an ill-judged move as Anne caught him and sent him home empty-handed.

In a nail-biting Final Chase, only two contestants took on Anne but scored an impressive 18.

While Anne felt she would still be able to catch them, she floundered on a couple of occasions and the team were able to push her back and stop her catching them.

It meant they split the prize pot of £42,999 between them, walking away with over £20,000 each.
