Legendary World Cup star fights back tears as he comes on to the pitch and kisses goalposts
AS Guillermo Ochoa stepped out onto the pitch for Mexico’s final group game, he made history at his SIXTH World Cup.
After Mexico put two past the Czech Republic, over 80,000 fans began chanting the name of their iconic goalkeeper.

As he stepped on to the Azteca pitch in the 77th minute, everyone in the stadium, in Mexico City, and maybe even Mexico erupted.
The 40-year-old was subbed on – 21 years after his national debut – for Guadalajara shot-stopper Raul Rangel, who is 14 years his junior.
It was a teary farewell for the Mexico legend, who is fondly known as ‘Memo’, with him set to hang up his boots after the World Cup.
The man with the curls and the headband held back tears as everyone cheered his name for the remaining 13 minutes.

And in the final moments, the crowd sang, “Ole, Ole, Ole, Memo, Memo”.
Then when the final whistle blew, Ochoa went and KISSED both goalposts before he embraced his fellow goalkeepers.
He took a knee on the pitch with tears streaming down his face.
The star went to his first World Cup in Germany in 2006, but he was forced to watch from the bench as Oswaldo Sanchez played on.

Four years later in South Africa, he kept the bench warm, but in 2014 at the age of 28, he got his moment in against Brazil.
That night, Ochoa’s Wikipedia page was updated hailing him the Mexican Jesus for the stunning display from between the sticks.
And since then, he has worked hard to stay fit and available ahead of this World Cup – even finding a stage at Cypriot club AEL Limassol.
Co-hosts Mexico secured a dominant 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic following an action-packed second half.
Mateo Chavez broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before Julian Quinones doubled the lead six minutes later.
Alvaro Fidalgo finished the Europeans off in injury time, leaving Mexico top of Group A.
Meanwhile, the Czechs finished dead last and will be heading home.
The co-hosts will progress into the round of 32 to play one of the third place finishers from Group C, E, F, H, or I.
