QATAR ace Assim Madibo has been slapped with a five-match ban after breaking Canada star Ismael Kone’s leg in a horror challenge.

The shocking incident took place during last week’s World Cup clash between the two Group B nations at the BC Place in Vancouver which saw the Canadians pick up a major 6-0 win.

Madibo, 29, was shown a direct red card on 53 minutes, which left Julen Lopetegui‘s side with nine men following Homam Ahmed’s dismissal in the first half.

The Al-Duhail ace was given his marching orders after he swooped Kone’s leg in a late challenge from behind.

At first, the midfielder didn’t realise what how bad the Canada star was hurt.

But upon finding out the full extent of the Sassuolo star’s injury he immediately held his head in devastation.

Kone, 24, required immediate medical attention as he broke his tibia and fibula in his left leg, while Madibo made his way back to the dressing room in tears.

The midfielder was stretchered off and rushed to hospital before undergoing surgery.

The injury brought a heartbreaking end to the ex-Watford star’s World Cup campaign.

But the same goes for Madibo, who was left out of Qatar’s final World Cup clash against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The Qatari ace was omitted from the last group stage match that led to his team’s elimination from the competition as they lost 3-1 to Bosnia.

The Fifa disciplinary committee said the five-game suspension was for serious foul play and that the decision was subject to appeal.

But days after the incident, Madibo made a classy gesture by visiting Kone.

Images shared by the Qatari FA showed the Canada star in a wheelchair as he reunited with his opponent and they shared a hug.
