As speculation ran wild about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s supposed stay at a royal residence during their UK visit, it never materialized, and now we know why. On July 23, Markle shared a collection of her family’s European summer holiday on Instagram, giving her followers a close look at the moments from Portugal, the UK, and what appears to be Scotland. The newly shared photos show the family stayed at Princess Diana’s childhood home, Althorp House, rather than in a royal home.

Harry reportedly also took his kids and wife to Diana’s resting place. In one photo from the carousel, Princess Lilibet can be seen walking through the estate’s iconic tree-lined avenue, with Harry and Prince Archie a few steps ahead carrying large bouquets. The image has royal watchers convinced the family was headed towards Diana’s grave and the nearby memorial.

Princess Diana is buried on a private island in the middle of Oval Lake on the Northamptonshire estate. While the burial site is not open to the public, visitors to Althorp can pay their respects at a memorial located beside the lake. According to reports from the Daily Mail, Harry, Markle, Archie and Lilibet were given private access to the estate during their visit.

Another photo posted by Markle showed her relaxing on a sun lounger with Earl Spencer and his wife, Dr Cat Jarman, in the background while petting the family’s rescue beagle, Mamma Mia.

The image confirmed reports that the Sussexes stayed at Althorp during their UK visit. The Instagram post, simply captioned “Summer Holiday,” also featured pictures of the family enjoying beach outings in Portugal, with Harry playing with Archie and Lilibet in the water. Although the family also reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla during the trip, Markle’s recently shared photos focus on intimate family moments. At its heart, Harry and his family’s UK visit allowed his kids to connect with Diana’s legacy deeply, while also making time to meet their grandfather.
